When you visit a travel blog you are likely met with photos from Thailand, Australia or capital cities around the world. Of course there are far more destinations in the world than this and places like that can often be out of reach to people. Sometimes you may feel as though your summer holiday to Corfu or Majorca doesn’t qualify as ‘travelling’ and may even be looked down on by some. Well I am here to show you why that is rubbish! The world is a huge place and whether your holiday takes you 70 or 7000 miles away from home there is still so much to see.
I really enjoy a typical beach holiday, I enjoy the weather, eating at small local restaurants, the relaxing and just any opportunity to go somewhere new! I don’t see many travel bloggers telling you why you should visit Lanzarote or Gran Canaria but I have been to both places and whilst they can be just what you expect, they can also surprise you a little.
When a week on a Greek or Spanish island can be had for around £300 per person you can understand why they are so popular with British tourists. However, your trip doesn’t have to be all fry ups and inflatable pool toys if you don’t want it to be. Venture a little further out for a day or two and you will find exactly the type of thing that the people who visit Thailand search for… culture.
I wanted to share some of my favourite pictures from the summer holidays that I have had over the last three or four years and invite you to share your stories with me in the comments. Who cares if we haven’t been to Thailand? We have still seen some breathtaking things and experienced great times in foreign lands.
PUERTO MOGAN – GRAN CANARIA
It was really quiet here, the sea was blue and with the grey rocks in front of the water it makes it very instagramable #nofilter. The resort had arguably the cleanest beach I have ever seen in a European country and there was lots of little cafes and restaurants that looked out over the water.
CORFU TOWN – CORFU
I was actually in a place called Gouvia in Corfu but took one day to visit Ipsos and another to visit Corfu Town. The latter is hands down the best place I have ever been to in Greece (and I have been to four of the islands and mainland Greece). If you decide to book a summer holiday to Corfu, get yourself here for a day, you will not regret it!
PLAYA BLANCA – LANZAROTE
Sun, sea and a marina. It is a classic combination for me and one that never fails to impress. Playa Blanca has some great little bars and restaurants along the sea front and isn’t as crowded as other resorts on the island. The first picture of the two is one of my favourites that I have ever taken, its currently framed and sitting in the living room.
So there you have it, my six favourite photos from my last three summer holidays by the beach. Don’t forget that whether you are planning a trip to Thailand, a staycation, or a week by the beach somewhere in Europe, it all counts as ‘travelling’!
